Reality TV Rant.

Okay, I’ve been reading up on these “reality shows” from MTV (Laguna Beach, The Hills, etc.) then I began Tweeting about them and my displeasure.  As much as I love twitter, sometimes, for longer thoughts, blogs are better.

Okay, here’s what I’ve said so far:

*Here’s my deal with reality tv: Give them their own channel. Couple hours of one show, if ratings are good, air it 24/7 on another channel.
*Only true “reality” shows were ‘The Truman Show’ and ‘EdTV’.

Now I’m going to expand on that.  Why is it that CBS, NBC, ABC, and many others have all these reality shows?  First of all, I hate them and hearing people talk about them is so boring and pointless.  They complain about what so-and-so did to this other person and blah blah.  Now, obviously the producers and networks are happy because you’re talking about their show and maybe one of your friends or someone else will be like “well, I gotta see what they’re talking about”.  But what about those of us who hate “realilty shows”?  “Reality shows” are not real!  You can argue until you’re blue in the face, but look at the past, on just about every show, after it’s over one person usually comes forward and says that certain elements were made up by a creative team.  Answer me this believers, if they’re truly ‘real’ and not a thing is scripted, why are there usually writers credited?

Now, please don’t get me wrong, I don’t like reality shows, I encourage the people who are doing it for certain reasons, like “American Idol” or “The Amazing Race” has a cash prize or whatever.  My thing is, why do networks waste their time?  Listen up all, here’s what they should do, and the viewers and believers would probably like this idea too.  There should be a reality show channel.  One channel several different shows try out, like say four hours of “The Amazing Race”, or some new show.  If ratings are consistently good for those four hours, give that show it’s own channel, and broadcast them for like 24/7.  Now, don’t tell me it isn’t possible to give them their own channel.  With digital it’s possible to have several hundred-thousand-million channels.  That’s my idea.

I’d have to say my biggest problem with “reality” is okay, yeah, you’re showing me all the juicy stuff, but that’s not all real life is like.  Now, boring may not be good for ratings, but at least it’s real.  When you have shows such as the Kardashian’s (which I admit, I watch) that are showing new episodes in May, which take place the previous September, what’s the point?  It shouldn’t take that long.  If it’s taking that long how is it “reality”?  It isn’t.  Be truthful.

I don’t know, I feel the only true “reality shows” are ‘The Truman Show’ and ‘EdTV’.  Now, many of you may be talking about how those are movies.  Yes, they all.  But the concept behind ‘The Truman Show’ is the perfect idea.  Please any networks, watch this movie!  ‘EdTV’ is another example.  They followed everyone and it was broadcast live, and just the whole concept behind Rob Reiner’s character’s idea was also perfect.

That’s basically my idea!  Not much else to say.  Mostly a rant which couldn’t fit into my Twitter.  Please, if you maybe liked this or whatever, give me feedback on Twitter.  I highly recommend it.  You can follow me, and send me a message saying you read one of my blogs and I’ll follow you back.  Just @JpGrB me.  Okay, Thanks for reading.  I’m out!
